Exploring the fundamental nature of the universe
What is the universe made of, and how does it work? CMS records and studies particle collisions to explore the laws of nature at the smallest scales and under the most extreme conditions.
What are we studying?
CMS studies the Standard Model of particle physics, which is our best model of the subatomic world. We specialise in measuring rare particles and subatomic processes in order to understand the origin and evolution of mass and matter in the universe.

What else could be there?
The Standard Model leaves many question unanswered, such as the nature of dark matter and how gravity works at small scales. CMS searches for new physics that could shed light on these kinds of mysteries.
